Electricity 101

This 2-hour online course is designed to provide security and alarm professionals with a foundational understanding of electrical theory and its practical application in low-voltage and fire alarm systems. The course covers essential electrical concepts including voltage, current, resistance, power, Ohm’s Law, series and parallel circuits, electrical safety, and basic troubleshooting principles. Participants will gain the practical knowledge necessary to interpret electrical behavior, perform safe installations, and apply foundational calculations in real-world field environments.

By the end of this course, participants will:

• Define and explain the basic principles of electricity including voltage, current, resistance, and power
• Apply Ohm’s Law to calculate voltage, current, resistance, and wattage in practical field scenarios
• Differentiate between series and parallel circuit configurations and explain their characteristics
• Identify safe electrical practices when working with low-voltage and branch circuits
